Mel’s ART101 studio is a relaxed and informal creative environment for absolute beginners to explore a variety of mediums, styles and techniques. With one of the most comprehensive skill sets in Brisbane, Mel’s abundant technical and theoretical knowledge can show you that you can create more than just stick figures. Discover how to see like an artist and translate that to canvas. Everyone has the potential, you just need the right guide to show you practical skills and keep you feeling confident.
With no set topics, you choose what project you would like to work on in the studio. From contemporary techniques, including texture and collage, through to more traditional painting techniques with brush and palette knife work, these classes offer a great deal of flexibility and best of all, choice. Having taught thousands of students over the last 10 years, Mel’s unique approach to teaching is tailored to what you want to achieve – one size does not fit all.
You can join a class at any time.
Classes are held in Mel’s private, home studio in Kenmore, Brisbane.

ART101′s small class size (max 4) means you can work on a project that really rocks your socks and you’ll get far more one on one guidance than in any other teaching studio.
When you attend ART101′s painting classes do bring along a ‘wishlist’ (samples of other artists’ work that appeal to you) and a variety of photographs as reference so that you work on a project tailored to your interests.
Mel’s teaching style includes regular demonstrations, practical application tips and simplified theory that is relevant to your project. As each student works on a different project in Mel’s painting classes, you will also pick up a variety of additional tips and be exposed to further techniques to inspire your next project.
