ART101 studio is a relaxed and informal creative environment for absolute beginners to explore drawing with charcoal to produce far superior images than pencil alone.

Our weekly drawing classes are perfect for absolute beginners who want to learn how to draw accurately and realistically. Be amazed at what you can produce with charcoal using a proven method guaranteeing results. Say goodbye to stick figures, forever!

With over 15 years’ of teaching experience, we KNOW everyone CAN draw – You just need to be shown ‘how’. ‘Talent’ comes from Tenacity!

With plenty of demonstrations and step by step instruction throughout the drawing classes, you will find the studio sessions easy to follow. Stay confident and realize results.

At your first class you will be introduced to charcoal and how it behaves on paper with a variety of practical applications. We’ll tackle some basic shapes so you understand gradient shading, highlighting and best studio practice.

Your ongoing sessions will be spent working on your chosen image and you will begin to develop your ‘eye’ and drawing skill. Go at your own pace as your tutor is a patient and encouraging guide, committed to your success & confidence.

You can attend classes on a weekly or fortnightly basis and there is some flexibility to swap between time slots. Should you choose fortnightly it is recommended (but not required) that you attend a double session to ensure adequate progress.

As your progress is accelerated by practising at home, our weekly studio sessions are BYO materials. You will need to get your own starter kit of charcoals, pencils and paper. Click here to see our full materials list

“We went to Mel for charcoal drawing lessons having ZERO experience in art and we couldn’t have been happier with the results. Mel is a great teacher and her guidance helped us create drawings we were proud to hang on any wall.
Highly recommend her lessons to anyone who is interested in learning or improving their skills.”

” I always wanted to take art classes. Drawing was something I thought I am not capable of, abstract painting maybe but not drawing.
I could not draw so much as a straight line.
First thing Mel told me when I decided to give it a go was that I will be surprised what I am capable of and only after 2 classes , I was.
Now I enjoy every class. It is amazing to be around creative people who encourage one another. It is a great place, great teacher. I love my Sunday mornings.

Highly recommended.” – Snezana
