Advanced Charcoal Drawing - Portraiture & Still Life

ART101's charcoal drawing programme offers a solid foundation for all arts practice, especially painting & portraiture. Students are empowered with skills and strategies to truly 'see' as an artist and translate that to paper.

The slow, incremental process of this method requires a measure of maturity, focus and tenacity - it is not recommended for beginners or impatient artists. With this in mind, new students should complete at least a term of our introductory Sketch Club in order to cultivate confidence and patience before progressing to the charcoal program. Experienced students wishing to start with the charcoal program should submit 3-5 drawings for fast-track consideration.

With an emphasis on still life and portraiture, students master light, shade and form using a variety of charcoal sticks and pencils. This programme is suitable for young artists who are self driven with the discipline to continue work outside of studio tuition hours. The results obtained by students allow for a deep sense of satisfaction and accomplishment.

STUDENT MATERIALS: As students' progress is accelerated with continued work between studio sessions, participants will need their own materials for use in the studio and at home. The list below links back to The Art Shed in West End whose helpful staff will gladly pick your order for collection if you call in advance.
