Charcoal Drawing | Youth Art Studio
2025 | Thursdays OR Fridays 4-6PM
2026 | Saturdays OR Sundays 2-4PM
ART101's charcoal drawing programme offers a solid foundation for all arts practice, especially painting & portraiture. Students are empowered with skills and strategies to truly 'see' as an artist and translate that to paper.
The slow, incremental process of this method requires a measure of maturity, focus and tenacity - it is not recommended for beginners or impatient artists. With this in mind, new students should complete at least a term of Sketch & Draw in order to cultivate confidence and patience before progressing to the charcoal program.

With an emphasis on still life and portraiture, students master light, shade and form using a variety of charcoal sticks and pencils. This programme is suitable for young artists who are self driven with the discipline to continue work outside of studio tuition hours. The results obtained by students allow for a deep sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. Experienced students wishing to start with the charcoal program should submit 3-5 drawings for fast-track consideration.
Our mixed discipline Youth Studio classes have limited spaces with preference given to returning students before places are opened to new enrolments. The class consists of artists working in a variety of mediums and each student is taught as an individual as well as limited group instruction.
As artists’ progress is accelerated with at home practice, students require their own materials and tools for use in the studio and at home. The list is available from Amazon with links below. Some items may come from Amazon international stores so it is best to order 2-3 weeks in advance to ensure delivery before commencement of the term. Free delivery is available to Prime members and orders over $59 (at time of publishing).

Term Fees:
The term is generally 10 weeks and the fee is $550, payable in full, 4 weeks prior to commencement of the term.
PLEASE NOTE:
*This is a term program which is time-limited/date specific and there are no 'make-up' sessions or credits brought forward to the following term for missed classes, regardless of reason for absence.
*Term fees will not be adjusted for planned absences as your child’s place is reserved for the entirety of the term program.
*In the unlikely event that we have to cancel a class (extreme weather, public emergency/health directive etc), an alternative date and time will be scheduled before the next term.
*Unfortunately we do not offer ‘trial’ classes.
